Artist Spotlight: Jess + Gabriel

Jess and Gabriel Conte are social media celebrities, accomplished cover musicians, and satisfied TuneLicensing customers, recording under the name Jess + Gabriel. We sat down to discuss what inspires them and how they create their art.

What inspired you to start playing music together?

Gabriel: The first time that I heard Jess’ voice, I just knew we had to record something even if it was just for fun. I don’t think either of us knew it was going to turn into such an amazing project that we had the privilege to share with everyone until it happened!

Is there a story behind any of the songs you chose to cover on your EP “Under the Covers”?

Jess: The songs “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and “Bless the Broken Road” really hold a close place in my heart. I feel like they describe our relationship together so perfectly. I walked down the aisle to “Bless the Broken Road” and it was completely unforgettable. I couldn’t be happier to have met my best friend and to share our passion of music with each other and those around us.

What are some of your favorite songs at the moment?

Jess:  I’m absolutely obsessed with Ed Sheeran’s album right now! Also ‘It Ain’t Me’ by Kygo and Selena Gomez is something I recently did a cover to because I couldn’t get it out of my head.

Gabriel:  I can’t stop singing 'September Song' by JP Cooper. If you haven’t heard it yet, you better because it’s #lit.

What is the importance of obtaining a mechanical license for cover songs?

Jess + Gabriel: Well without one, we wouldn’t be able to legally record and distribute it to our fans!

Why did you choose TuneLicensing? How was your experience using TuneLicensing?

Jess + Gabriel: We wanted something quick and easy, and that’s what we were able to find here!
